Nestled in the pristine landscapes of Northeast India, the enchanting state of Sikkim unveils a kaleidoscope of colours and fragrances at its annual International Flower Festival. Celebrated from March to May, this vibrant event showcases the rich diversity of flora that thrives in this mountainous paradise, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in nature’s bounty.
Sikkim is renowned for its remarkable biodiversity, boasting a staggering array of plant species that include over 600 varieties of orchids, 240 species of trees and ferns, 150 varieties of gladioli, and 46 types of rhododendrons, among others. Against this backdrop of natural splendour, the International Flower Festival emerges as a celebration of the state’s floral heritage, drawing tourists and enthusiasts from far and wide.
During our recent visit to Sikkim, we had the privilege of immersing ourselves in the enchanting world of the International Flower Festival. From the moment we stepped foot into the festival grounds, we were greeted by an explosion of colours and fragrances that captivated the senses.



The sheer diversity of floral specimens on exhibit was a testament to Sikkim’s status as a botanical treasure trove. Each flower seemed to tell a story of resilience and beauty, flourishing amidst the rugged terrain and temperate climate of the Himalayas. As we wandered through the aisles of the festival, we marvelled at the intricate patterns and vibrant hues that adorned every petal and leaf.





One of the highlights of the festival was the opportunity to interact with experts and enthusiasts alike, who shared their knowledge and passion for flowers with infectious enthusiasm. From gardening tips to insights into the conservation efforts underway to protect Sikkim’s floral heritage, each conversation deepened our appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.




The sheer variety of flowers on display was astounding, with delicate orchids, vibrant rhododendrons, and exotic foliage plants painting a mesmerizing tableau against the backdrop of the Himalayan foothills.
