The RG Kar Medical College protests, sparked by the tragic rape and murder of a young resident doctor on 09 August 2024, began as a spontaneous outcry against the deep-rooted issues plaguing the healthcare sector. While the initial focus was on highlighting administrative inefficiencies, inadequate facilities, and systemic neglect, the movement has gradually become vulnerable to interference from politically motivated groups. This has led to a dilution of the original message, confusion among the public, and delays in addressing the protesters' core demands. To prevent such hijackings and maintain the integrity of spontaneous movements, it is essential to establish clear leadership, define goals early on, and ensure swift responses from authorities.
