The air in Ranchi held a whisper of spring, a gentle promise carried on the breeze as March tiptoed in. For me, this particular March held a double measure of anticipation. As evening settles in on March 21, the world pauses to celebrate the quiet magic of words, the beauty of poetry, and the timeless power of language to shape our thoughts and emotions.

World Poetry Day, observed every year by UNESCO, calls us to honour the art of weaving verses that capture the essence of the human experience, the stories that give voice to our dreams, our fears, and our hopes. It’s a day to remember how poetry binds us across cultures and eras, stitching us together with threads of shared humanity.

This March 21 holds a deeper personal significance as well—today marks my own birthday. But just as significant, as the night deepens, so too does the anticipation of a very special celebration—the birthday of my dear daughter-in-law, Tania, on the 22nd. The day after my own, a beautiful coincidence that feels serendipitous.

Tania, with her gentle spirit and radiant presence, has become a cherished part of our family’s story. Her laughter, her grace, her unspoken wisdom are like verses that brighten the corners of our lives. As the eve of her birthday approaches, I find myself thinking that poetry—those very words we are celebrating today—may be the best way to express just how much she means to us.

So, as the night deepens, I sit with pen in hand, crafting a small poem as a gift to Tania, a simple melody of words to honor the love she brings to our lives. It isn’t grand or elaborate, just a humble reflection of the joy she adds to each day. And as I share it here, on this special evening, I also share a celebration of Tania—the bright star whose birthday we will joyfully mark tomorrow.

A Bloom in Our Family Garden

The sun climbed high, a golden gleam,
As spring awakened from its dream.
And on this eve, a joyful start,
For love resides within my heart.

Tania, dear, your gentle grace,
Illumines every time and space.
Your laughter rings, a melody,
A cherished part of our family.

Like verses woven, strong and true,
The bonds we share are bright with you.
May happiness your days embrace,
And smiles forever light your face.

Happy Birthday, my dear one,
May all your dreams like stars outrun.
