34 Years: A Poem of Us

Thirty-four years ago,
on a gentle November night,
two hearts stood side by side
and whispered vows that would outlast time.
We didn’t know then
how life would twist,
how seasons would surge and settle,
how laughter and storm
would both find their way into our lives.
But we knew this—
we would walk together.

And walk we did.

Through quiet dawns and hurried days,
through cities that shaped us
and crossroads that tested us,
through moments when words were few
but understanding was plenty.
With every sunrise,
our love learned a new language—
of patience, of strength,
of leaning gently
into each other’s worlds.

Then came October 15, 1992—
a day kissed by grace.
Our son arrived,
a tiny heartbeat wrapped in promise.
From his first cry
to the steady, healing hands he carries today,
Judhajit has been
a living reflection
of everything we dreamed a family could be:
compassion, courage, and character.

And life, in its quiet generosity,
on May 3, 2022, brought us Tania—
a daughter in spirit,
a gentle soul whose presence
fills our home like warm light.
Together,
these two complete the circle
we began three decades ago.

Yet our journey was also marked
by a profound sorrow—
on January 26, 2005,
we lost my mother,
our guiding umbrella of strength,
whose blessings still whisper
through every step we take.

Today, our home in Ranchi
breathes with the rhythm
of togetherness—
meals shared,
laughter echoing through hallways,
stories slipping from one generation
to the next.
In this home,
love is not spoken—it is lived.

As we mark 34 years,
I look back not at the distance travelled,
but at the moments sewn into our hearts:
the quiet reassurances,
the brave decisions,
the dreams we shaped,
the storms we outlasted.
I look at Jagrata—
my partner, my compass—
and I feel the same truth
I felt in 1991:
love is not a grand gesture,
but a lifelong unfolding.

Here’s to us—
to the years behind,
to the years ahead,
to the sanctuary we have built
and the memories still waiting
to bloom.

Happy Anniversary—
to love that endures,
to family that completes,
to a journey that continues
with grace.

Reading this poem has been a deeply moving experience. My friend, through your remarkable gift of expression, has captured the essence of a journey that spans three and a half decades of marriage. What strikes me most is the way you weaves together moments of joy, sorrow, resilience, and love into a narrative that feels both personal and universal. Your writing skill is truly immaculate—every line carries a rhythm of sincerity, and every image resonates with lived emotion.

The poem is not just a recollection of years gone by; it is a celebration of togetherness, of family, and of the quiet strength that sustains relationships. The arrival of your son Judhajit, the blessing of Tania, and even the sorrow of losing his mother are all portrayed with such tenderness that the reader feels the heartbeat of your family. Your ability to balance joy and grief, to show how both shape the fabric of life, reflects a rare maturity in expression.

I must also share a personal connection here. As destiny would have it, I too got engaged in the same month—just five days later. This coincidence makes your words even more poignant for me, as I can relate to the emotions of beginnings, promises, and the unfolding of a lifelong journey.

In conclusion, this poem is not only a testament to your literary brilliance but also a reminder of the enduring power of love and companionship. It is a piece that will remain etched in memory, much like the vows it celebrates.

Happy Anniversary—to my dear friend and your partner, for a love that endures, a family that completes, and a journey that continues with grace.🙏🏽
