We also shared a satisfying lunch of dal-bati-churma with our driver, Deepak ji. Reflecting on our experiences, the journey back to Udaipur was marked by a deeper understanding of both valor and faith.
Every stone in Chittorgarh carries memory, but some rise higher than others — literally and figuratively. As we walked deeper into the fort, towers touched the sky, kunds whispered of battles, and the specter of jauhar hovered heavy in the air.
If Udaipur is the romantic heart of Mewar, Chittorgarh is its soul — fierce, tragic, unyielding. As we drove towards the fort that once stood as the largest in India, I felt as though we were approaching not just stone walls, but a living legend of Rajputana.
The trip to Nathdwara takes place along the roads of Rajasthan, where pilgrims travel barefoot, showing their devotion to Shreenathji, a respected incarnation of Krishna. Led by Deepak ji, we observed the lively culture and holy environment as we arrived at the Shreenathji Temple, feeling a deep bond amid the busy crowd and spiritual enthusiasm.
Bagore ki Haveli serves as a historical museum in Udaipur, showcasing Rajasthan's culture and daily life through its various chambers. An unexpected storm on Lake Pichola provided an enchanting experience during a boat ride, transforming the scene into a dramatic spectacle. Ultimately, unplanned local dining offered comfort after the storm, reflecting the joy in spontaneous experiences.
We see the City Palace in Udaipur, initiated by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559, as a monumental display of Mewar's history, combining Rajput, Mughal, and European architectural styles. We witness valorous artifacts, artistic frescoes, and the royal family's ongoing legacy, culminating in a rich cultural experience and unique souvenirs symbolizing the region's heritage.
Our spiritual journey to Eklingji Temple reflected our determination to gain darshan after a prior disappointment. As we entered, we were immersed in the temple’s rich history and sacred atmosphere, which culminated in a profound moment during the aarti. This encounter deepened our connection to the divine and prepared us for further exploration of Udaipur.
The evening in Udaipur was marked by visits to Jagdish and Mahalaxmi Temples, immersing in devotion and rich architecture. After unsuccessful dining attempts at popular restaurants, a hidden gem offered a delightful meal by Lake Pichola. The night ended with a peaceful return through quiet streets, reflecting on a fulfilling day.
We take the journey to Machla Magra Hill in Udaipur, culminating at the Karni Mata Temple, offering us breathtaking views of the City of Lakes. We enjoy a ropeway ride and a playful experience at a 3D Photo Museum. The shrine's modest presence alongside a Muslim mazhār symbolises harmony, enhancing the city's magical charm for us at sunset.
During a monsoon ride to Eklingji Temple, the weather thwarted the journey, leading to a stop at Nagda's historical ruins instead. Despite the disappointment of the closed temple, the couple explored the Saas-Bahu Temples, reflecting on the area's rich yet tragic history, before resolving to return the next day for Eklingji.
