Dim Sums & Daylight: A Culinary Pause in Ranchi

Ranchi, with its whispering trees and gentle hills, has always held a quiet charm. But lately, something new has been stirring beneath its serene surface—a culinary renaissance that’s adding spice to its soul. And on one warm afternoon, after picking up Judhajit from his exam centre and accompanying him on a home visit in Hinoo, we stumbled into one such delicious surprise.

A Change of Plans in Hinoo

We had originally set our sights on Pizza Hut, tucked inside a mall in Hinoo. Familiar, predictable, comforting. But fate, as it often does, nudged us toward something unexpected. A newly opened restaurant—Asian Tree—caught our eye. Its name promised a fusion of flavours, and its façade, with clean lines and warm tones, invited us in.

Inside, the ambience was a gentle embrace. Soft lighting, the low murmur of conversations, and the occasional clink of cutlery created a cocoon of calm. It felt like the kind of place where time slows down just enough for stories to unfold.

Beer, Banter & Bonds

We began with beers—cold, crisp, and just right for the lingering heat outside. As the first sips settled in, so did our conversation. Judhajit spoke of his exam questions, the hospital rounds, and the quiet chaos of clinical life. There’s something about beer that loosens the knots in a day, making room for laughter and reflection. And in that moment, surrounded by the hum of a new restaurant and the comfort of familiar voices, everything felt just right.

A Journey Through Asia, One Plate at a Time

Asian Tree’s menu reads like a passport through the East—Thai curries, Chinese stir-fries, Japanese rolls, and more. We decided to sample a spread, letting curiosity guide our choices. But one dish stood out, not just in taste but in memory: the dim sum.

Dim Sums: Little Parcels of Perfection

Dim sums are more than food—they’re a philosophy. Bite-sized, delicately crafted, and layered with flavour, they embody the Asian ideal of balance and subtlety. At Asian Tree, they were nothing short of exquisite.

Each dumpling arrived like a small sculpture—translucent wrappers revealing hints of the treasures within. The first bite was a quiet explosion: tender casing giving way to juicy fillings. Chicken, prawn, and even a vegetarian mix that managed to win over Judhajit, a staunch carnivore.

The dipping sauces added their own poetry—soy for depth, chilli oil for fire, hoisin for sweetness. Every bite was a conversation between texture and taste, tradition and innovation.

Food, Family & Fulfilment

What made the meal truly memorable wasn’t just the food—it was the company. Sharing dim sums with my son and daughter-in-law, trading stories over beer, and watching the afternoon light shift across the restaurant’s walls—it all felt like a quiet celebration of togetherness.

Asian Tree didn’t just serve us a meal; it offered a moment. A pause in the day where everything aligned—flavour, ambience, and emotion.

A New Favourite in Ranchi’s Culinary Map

Ranchi’s dining scene is evolving, and Asian Tree is a testament to that change. For locals seeking something fresh or travellers passing through, this restaurant deserves a spot on your itinerary. It’s not just about eating—it’s about experiencing.

As we stepped out, stomachs full and hearts fuller, I felt a quiet gratitude. For the unexpected detour, for the dim sums that danced on our tongues, and for the simple joy of sharing a table with loved ones.

Here’s to more such afternoons—where food becomes memory, and every bite tells a story.
